Data Modelling Essentials
DAMA Melbourne is delighted to offer this two day course on practical techniques for developing data models. Developed by Graeme Simsion, this course is generally considered to be one of the best guides to understanding data modeling and is commonly praised for its clarity and usefulness. The course material is based on the industry standard text book - Data Modelling Essentials. Every student receives a free copy of the book as well as all course materials. Over the last 15 years this course has been presented around the world (including international conferences) and throughout Australia.
This course covers:
* Defining data modelling and explaining why it is important
* Criteria for assessing a good data model
* Data modelling notation
* Normalisation techniques
* Subtypes and supertypes
* Conceptual, logical and physical data models
* Organising a data model project
* Introduction to data modelling for data warehouses and data marts
The course is designed to be highly interactive, with a wide range of examples and exercises used to illustrate the principles.

Speaker Biography
Glen Bell is a partner in Robinson Ryan and is head of their data management practice. He has taught data modelling courses for almost two decades. He has worked on data related projects in North America, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand and throughout Australia.
Glen has a Master of Business in Information Technology (University of Technology, Sydney) and Bachelor of Science - Maths and Computing (University of Queensland). He is the President of the Sydney chapter of the Data Management Association and is a Certified Data Management Professiona (CDMP) at mastery level.

Schedule and Catering
The two day course runs on August 11 and 12. Registration is from 8:00am with tea and coffee available on arrival. The course runs from 9:00am to 5:00pm. There will be breaks for morning and afternoon tea as well as lunch. All meal costs are included in the course fee.
DAMA Membership included
Non DAMA members will receive 12 month membership in DAMA for no charge. This membership usually costs $100.
